I was wondering if its possible to record what the x1700 is putting out when you are running VDJ with it as the soundcard.
I know the traditional way of doing this would be to run rca to 1/8" and plug that in the mic/line in on the computer and then record from that.
I am wondering though if there is some setup that will allow me to use the USB connection of the x1700 as a signal source instead of having to use the more traditional route.
Ok gents, I figured this out and its really really sweet. DON'T BOTHER recording into VDJ. The best you'll get is using your record out on the back of your mixer into a line in and then sticking that in your mic jack. The results will be:
1)It sounds like utter crap
2) you will have the worst time in the world controlling the signal.
Denon actually presented the solution built into the mixer and for once I can see without a quiver in my voice: Hats off guys for thinking about this!
The solution is to go into your usb settings on the mixer and assign "rec" to one of the channels that your not using. Voila!!! now you open up a program like ableton and you run that channel in (with upfader down so it doesnt broadcast the sound live). That channel will record EXACTLY what is coming out of your mixer, so all your effects, all your volume control ,etc (and the cueing will be silent). What your hearing live is what that channel is picking up. Now if the mixer could recieve its midi clock from the program
One thing I dont understand about this is that when I put this signal into ableton (the channel with the record assigned to the usb configuration) I cannot adjust the sound at all. When I put a channel with an external signal source(channel usb setting) the levels in ableton are adjusted according to the gain. This makes sense because Ableton is recieving the level from the mixer which is set by the gain. But with the usb channel assigned to "rec" it doesnt matter what I do to the gain. the level is constant in ableton.
Why is this and can it be fixed? The output from the channel should be directly related to the gain knob, the mixer lights show this, but for whatever reason the instruction is not translated to the computer.
