Solution... HD2500 No HDD Check HDD & external drive issues.

Postby DjSantoCcs on Sun Jan 17, 2010 7:43 am

Hi, I find one solution for the question about the DN-HD2500, soo take a note and if someone have questions only about this tip make a question.

I find that the question of the No HDD Check HDD, is a question about the format of the HD, I don't know how but when you connect the HD2500 to some mixers the Hard Drive lose the format and can't read the content. The solution to this is simple but was not easy to find. Soo to all of that people that have this quiestion:

You need a computer with the Denon Music Manager installed in this PC and a cable to connect the PC with the HD2500.

*Important*: This works in PC's with Windows Vista or Seven ONLY!!!

1- Turn ON the DN-HD2500 and wait for the message that says "No HDD, Check HDD"
2- Connect the DN-HD2500 to the PC and put the HD as a Externarl drive, like when your are triying to tranfer the music from the PC

3- Open the Denon Music Manager and select the Drive that is the DN-HD2500 (note that the program won't reconize the Database)
4- Select the Opcion Create a New Database and do all the things that the program says

*Important*: If the Denon Music Manager give you an ERROR, follow this *NEW Important* steps:

*NEW Important 1*: When you connect the HD to the PC, you have to do the Checking and Fixing Process that the Windows tells you. If you connect the HD to the PC and the Windows don't tell you anything about this, you have to disconnect the HD from the computer unsafely, "without the safely remove hardware in the Windows".

*NEW Important 2*: After the Checking and Fixing Process in the PC, "Remove Safely The HD From The PC" but don't turn OFF the HD2500 (Just Safely Remove Hardware from Windows) and Connect Again the HD2500 to the PC and follow steps 2, 3 and 4.

*NEW Important 3*: If again the Denon Music Manager give you and error again, close the program, safely remove the HD and again follow the steps 2, 3 and 4 "without the *NEW Important* Steps".

5- Safely Remove Hardware (Stop Device in the PC)
6- Disconnect USB Cable
7- Power OFF DN-HD2500
8- Turn ON DN-HD2500 and wait for verify the database and for the message "Ready"
9- Press the Botton -Util for few seconds until HD goes to Utility Options
10- Go to Initialization and press the Jog
11- Go to Format press the Jog, select HDD and press the Jog again
12- Wait a few seconds until the HD says DONE
13- Connect the HD to the PC again, put the HD as a External Drive and Open the Denon Music Manager
14- Transfer your music,
15 Thats All. Its Done.

I used 3 DN-HD2500 with the same question and this solution works but i think that no all the No HDD questions are because of this. Like i just say before this is one solution but not the only one.

Sorry for my english and Thanks for the comments.

Hi to everyone,

I was checking about this problem and i think that i find the situation that cause this problem. I can't say that its the exact situation but all the problems like this that i find have the same situation.

This is the situation that I got that makes this happen:

"When you connect the HD2500 to a mixer that is connect to another CD Player that is using Serato's CD Code Controllers cause the HD lose the Format". I don't know how, i don't know why, but all the people that i knew with this problem, come after they do this. I think that the People of DENON have to check this and make a solution with a new update of the HD2500.

Soo, to all this people that have this problem be carefull when you are going to connect you HD in the situation that i told before.

To answers some questions:

1.- Data Loss:
With this procedure "you are going to loss all the data in the HD", if you want to save the data in the HD you need a cable to connect the HD to the PC (I can't tell if this works). For this people that are going to loss all the data, you can't have the data in only one place. My first recomendation is that before tranfer the music or data to the HD make a backup in another HD or PC. This is the first thing that you need to do when you have a HD2500.

2.- HD in External Drive Mode:
Turn ON the HD2500 and wait until the message "NO HDD, Check HDD" goes out.
Connect the HD to the PC, Press the button source and with the select Botton go to the PC Icon that you see in the HD screen and press the select botton.
Wait to the PC install recognize the HD2500 as a external drive.

3.- This can be another solution or temporary solution to this problem:
Try this:

-Unplug player
-remove hex screws for hdd door on the left side
-remove 2 + screws
-pull out the caddy
-reinsert the caddy firmly
-plug in power
-turn power ON and see if that error is gone

If gone, put screws and panel back on.

This option is Thanks to Silvio Zeppieri from DENON.

Thanks again to all for the comments.

Hi there,

The solution does not seem to work with my DNHD2500 :(

I have hooked up the device to my PC and it will not allow me to select any source.
I can select the source before it goes through its "verifying database" bit but it goes solid after that!

Can you tell me how to use the HD as an external drive as i cant seem to find out how?

Is there any other option for this problem as i have a gig this Saturday and need the device!!

I would like to add that i only use the Denon as a controller by playing a time code through serato scratch (vis a pen drive) so i only really need the time code to use it.
It seems very silly that i can use it without the hard-rive. could i set up an external one instead?

as a temporary measure do you know if i can use a cheaper hd player to perform the same function?

Any help would be very much appreciated! :D

yourdj, of course you can use the 2500 with an external hd (the external should be self powered and must be formatted as FAT32).

Check out these helpful "Sticky" threads for everything you wanted to know about the 2500.

For those people that insist on using a self powered drive instead of a drive with a power supply/wall plug... if you run into drive disconnect issues, please see the diagram below.

If the external drive case you are using has it's own dedicated power suppl/wall plug (like most 3.5" and some 2.5"drive cases have), please make sure to use it as well.

Hi,

Not updated firmware? Not sure how to now as i cant access the device

Can i use an external hardrive/or pen drive to power the device instead of the internal one?
my problem is i cant access anything at the moment as i have a message

"no HDD (CHECK HDD)"

I know how to use it (stickys etc) the problem is i cant! :x

and that is it? I am using pen drives with a time code to control Serato and that is not accesible making the device useless.
any advice like the one on the top to get this working would be very much appreciated.

One question - if i bought a back up player (ADJ SDJ1) would the time codes control Serato in the same manner?
Obviously Denon is a much more superiour product :D

thanks

If you go into update mode, this will bypass the "no hdd" error.

You will need to register yourself and player from the link providedabove.
Then DL zip file from your new account
Then unzip in your computer
Then read the PDF instructions on how to update
Then update the player
You will need a thumb drive

Step 1: Load a file in either deck. In Cue or Pause mode, hold down the button labeled “-preset” for 2 seconds (on the same side where the file is loaded). The display should then indicate that you are in the preset mode. mode

- But i cant load a track :?: or do anything else for that matter - And pushing the preset button does not work without the track loaded?

I have tried it before it verifies database and comes up with the error message but it locks on "now creating 0%"

It also goes on to db file save (left deck) & registered file 0 (right deck)
i have windows xp on mac (fusion).

can anyone please advise what to do as i have a gig tomorrow and really need to get this fixed.

:D

thanks

How do i do this as it seems the most logical option?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewd8H8gIoxA

if this is the only way i cant select any source enabeling pc mode

It just sticks on the error message and nothing else. I do hope that this is not a preprogramed thing as the warranty has just run out as that is totally out of order! (epson printers etc have that)

i am using a mac running windows XP if thats of any use?

Thanks for all your help :D

Edit:

PROBLEM TEMOPRARILY SOLVED! :D )

It seems simple but i have removed the hard drive and turned it on and all the other functions work when i select source button. Basically i now have access to pen drives and pc mode. I cant believe i did not try that yesterday. I assumed it was like a computer and will not work without the harddrive

Not sure if i can update the firmware like that or if it has to have the hard drive in or not?

Im adding a video of this problem on youtube tomorrow as i bought my machine when they came out and i would assume this problem may happen more frequently :?

This has made my day as i only use it to control serato via two mp3 time codes. Any one in my situation without serato can upload their main tracks though on a high capacity pen drive/portable hardrive as a temporary measure.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with my Denon DN-HD2500...
Yesterday, I came to switch on the device I found this message No HDD (Check HDD).
If I understand well, what is described here, it looks that all my data will be lost?

Do someone know, why this happend?
I get my DN-HD connected to Denon dn-X1500S mixer. I didn´t move with case. Day before everything worked well. So, its make me wonder, where is the problem.

Today, I am going to test the instruction described by DJSantoCcs. I will replay if was helpfull, or not.
Or if anyone have an idea, how to rework the device without lost of all datas, will make me happy (unfortunately my laptop with backup is broken as well) - Not good days for me.

Thanks to all who can help and sorry for my english.

I am also having the NO HDD (can't open) error message problems. Also,
my HDN-2500 wants to create a new database on my external drive.
What shakes?

Follow Silvio’s instructions mentioned above. This error is about the internal drive. Even if you don’t load it with music the HD2500 will still check the drive at power up.

Your DB is probably corrupted. Connected your external drive to your computer. Run MM and create the DB (answer yes to both questions it will ask you).
Connected the drive back to your HD2500 and try again.

Also, I have my HD2500 set to start up on my internal drive – even though I don’t use my internal drive. I always manually select my external drive by pressing the source button. This will make sure that all my external devices (HUB, HD, keyboard, etc) are properly booted before the HD2500 tries to access them.
